Ali: Our first official date was down at the Landing in St. Louis in 2014. Nick and I did already know each
other from going to college at SIUe (he asked me out in college, but I shot him down, haha!). He picked me
up and we went down to the landing for dinner and drinks at Morgan Street. I was really nervous to go on a
date with him because we kind of knew each other already through mutual friends but we had never been
alone together. I was worried about what we would talk about or how to keep the conversation going. That
ended up not being a problem at all! We stayed out all night and I couldn't wait to see him again. We had our
second date just a few days later!
Nick: It was in Downtown St. Louis on the landing. We talked the entire date and I couldn’t keep my eyes off
her. I new from this day that Ali and I shared something special and I was going to make sure this beautiful woman
was not going to slip away.
First Date
Ali: I always knew that Nick would do something very special for our proposal. Nick and I had gone on a trip to Vancouver, Canada October 2017 and we fell in love with it. We especially loved Lynn Canyon Park. Me and my mom like to take some of my dad's ashes with us to new places that we visit and "leave" my dad in those places. When we went there in 2017, we left some of my dads ashes in a really cool creekside spot in Lynn Canyon park. Fast forward to August 2018, I just though it was an ordinary weekend. My mom came to town and we all went to a Cardinals game the night before. She spent the night at our house, thinking nothing of it because this is something that we do often. The next morning at 3:30 am, Nick's alarm went off and I am thinking it was an accident. I turned it off and got up to use the bathroom, next thing I know Nick is telling me to get dressed because we are going on a trip. Needless to say I didn't believe him until he showed me my suitcase (which he packed on his own). After some reassurance, we were in the car on our way to the airport, me having no idea where we are going. I finally figured out where we were headed when Nick pointed out his hat, which had ta Canadian maple leaf on it. When we arrived to Vancouver, it was late afternoon and I assumed we would get freshened up and head out to get something to eat. Nick had other plans. Shortly after arriving, we were on the ferry to go on a hike in Lynn Canyon Park. We headed down the same path to the area where we had previously spread my dads ashes. I was walking ahead of Nick and all of a sudden he called my name and when I turned around, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him! It was huge surprise and more than I could have ever asked for! One of the best days of my life. I cried some happy tears and called all of our family and friends. One of my favorite parts was that we got to spend the rest of a long weekend celebrating with just us two in Canada!
Nick: It was a surprise vacation to our favorite city of Vancouver, British Columbia. Once we got there, we immediately went to Lynn Canyon National Park where we had previous been before and I asked her to marry me next to a river running through the park. We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating and exploring the Canadian city.
